Good Morning

Somehow you found my blog. I'm not going to ask how because the chances of anyone finding this blog are pretty low. Currently I am a third year french horn major at Cal State Fullerton. I enjoy surfing and skateboarding during my free time.

I'm modeling this general blog after my friend Umi's. It's a decent way to document what I'm doing (and have it dated) without having piles of paper everywhere. So, for fun, here's the equipment I've currently got:

Music:
An Ibanez Artcore Semihollowbody
An Ibanez Electric Acoustic AEL20E
A Jackson K3 Kelly
A Marshall MOSFET 100W Half Stack
A Vox Valvetronix VT30
An Authentic Didgeridoo
A Conn 8DS French Horn
A Les Paul ripoff that I use for slide
A Harmony Lap Steel
And a multitude of other instruments I don't even care to name

Surf:
3 Wetsuits (all old. One quicksilver and 2 victories)
1 6'4" squash tail thruster short board
1 6'6" round tail channel bottom
1 7'10" round tail egg with wings (also a thruster)
1 Unmarked fiberglass flex skateboard from the 70's

For reference in later posts, here is a general history of my activities in both areas:

Music: My mother started me off on piano at the age of 4 years old. When I was in fourth grade, I picked up the trumpet and dropped it promptly in 6th grade in favor of the horn. In 6th grade I also taught myself harmonica and ukelele. As a freshman in high school, inspired by Duane Allman's slide solo on One Way Out, I began playing guitar and stopped playing Piano. When I became a junior in high school, I started a band initially called N/A, but after a year every original member other than me had left and we were left with a six piece band we called The 909's. I learned how to play lap steel and slide guitar during this time. Currently I attend Cal State Fullerton for french horn. I have recently picked up the didgeridoo and haven't been in a band in a long while.

Surfing: My dad has always been a surfer. Thus, he spent much of my childhood trying to get me into surfing. When I was in first grade he became a surfboard shaper (quite a change from his job as a hydrogeologist consultant) and began trying to get me to learn how to skateboard and surf. I learned how to swim and excelled at breastroke. My dad would take me surfing off and on but I never had fun with it unless my friends joined me. I've been able to catch waves and generally get the occasional ride since I was a seventh grader, but I believe that realistically I've been surfing since last summer. Currently I'm a part time laminator at EVF working with vacuum bag composites. In case you're wondering, I will not give you any information you cannot find online about the process, but I am willing to discuss what we do at EVF to promote interest in the technology. I prefer early progressive power surfing and Mark Occhilupo, Sunny Garcia, Tom Curren, and Tom Carrol are generally my favorites. As I surf and expand my knowledge of surfing I will post accordingly in this blog.

Well, that's it for today. Pretty long winded if you ask me. I like to babble. But it's important to lay a strong foundation when starting something like this to keep records of my activities. Until next time.

Diercks
